Our research and management team

Professor Fiona Wood is the Director of the BIRU. She leads the research team at the Fiona Wood Foundation, encompassing the BIRU and the BSWA, both adult and children. 

Mark is a Senior Scientist at the Fiona Wood Foundation and Associate Professor at the Burns Institute Research Unit, UWA. 

Since graduating in 1996, Mark has been involved in scientific research at North Western University in Chicago, the University of London, and the University of Western Australia.

Mark’s research focus since 2006 has been on wound healing, scar formation, and ways to improve outcomes for burn patients.
 

Dale is the Senior Physiotherapist & Senior Researcher at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

Dr Lisa Martin is a researcher at the Burn Injury Research Unit at the University of Western Australia. She has worked in burns research since 2009, following a career in critical care and emergency nursing, cardiology research and clinical trials.

Aaron is the Chief Digital Officer for the Fiona Wood Foundation and is embedded in the clinical team at Fiona Stanley Hospital. His role is to utilise digital innovation to aid clinical decision making, automate workflows and to add value for researchers. Since joining the team in 2006, he has developed core clinical and research applications with a focus user experience and each aspect of the data value chain from collection to insights. This data is leveraged by our researchers to improve clinical outcomes for our patients.

Aaron is currently leading projects across several Health sites in data visualisation, wearables, mobile and AI technologies with an emphasis on building capability within WA Health. His current focus is utilising mobile technology to reduce the cognitive load on clinicians.

Aaron is a graduate of Murdoch University (BSc Information Systems), UWA (MBA) and The Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Diane is responsible for all the fundraising, partnerships, communications, marketing and database and executive management of the Foundation.

Di is a graduate from the University of Western Australia (UWA) with a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Human Resource Management). Di has over 20 years  of experience in fundraising and relationship management and has held roles at The University of Western Australia and the University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle.

Natalie Dakic is currently completing an undergraduate degree in political science and international relations at the University of WA. 

Whilst completing her degree, Natalie is a part-time project officer assisting Di with community fundraising, database management, communications, events and administration.
